Step-by-Step Instructions:

1. Taking your jersey yarn, cut 5 lengths at 45โ€ each.

2. Line up your strands evenly. Tie one end in a knot leaving about 2โ€ at the top.

3. We found it helpful to secure the knot to something stable to keep it from moving around as we worked. Use a clipboard, pin to a pillow or whatever is available to you. Spread out your 5 strands.

4. Starting with the strand on your far left (strand #1), put it over strand #2, and under strand #3. This strand should now be in the middle of all 5 strands.

5. Next, take the far right strand (strand #5), and put it over strand #4, and under strand #3. This strand should now be in the middle of all 5 strands.

8. Once you have reached your desired length, trim the remaining strands about 1โ€ from the braid. Repeat this on the other side, untying the knot and trimming the strands. Try not to over-handle your braid as it can unravel!

9. Using the q-tip, apply the fabric glue to both ends of the headband, and place one end over the other, overlapping about ยฝโ€. Press the ends together gently, trying to flatten the joining seam. Set aside until it is fully dry (about 2-3hrs).

10. Once dried, we will cover the ends to make them neat looking!

11. Cut a piece of your jersey yarn about 5โ€ long, and iron it to help it stay flat. (You can find the handy little Cut 'n' Press mat we used here). Lay your cut piece with the good side face down. Cut 2 strips of your hem tape and lay them out on your cut piece of jersey yarn.

12. Place the glued seam on the hem tape, about 1โ€ from the end.

13. Flip that 1โ€ end overtop the seam, and iron, pressing the iron until it is fused together. Trim any excess fabric and hem tape from the top piece.

This style is another easy design that creates an elegant looking focal point to your headband! The instructions for fusing the ends is the same as our first tutorial.

1. Cut 6 strands of your chosen jersey yarn at 25โ€, separating them into 2 sections of 3 strands each. Lay one section out on the table with the loop at the top and the right side crossing over the left. Take your second section and place it on top of the first section with the loop at the bottom as shown below.

2. Take the right end of the first section, and place it over the second section so it is sitting on top of the bottom loop.

3. Take the left strands of the second section, and bring it behind the loop of the first section, making sure it lays underneath the loop at the top.

4. Taking the top right strands, carefully bring it over, under, then over the top looped section.

5. Taking the ends (the top two and bottom two) in your hands, gently and slowly pull the knot together. Trim the ends to the desired length, and finish it just like we did in the 5-Strand Braid Headband.

3 Braid Headband

Another twist on a cute headband is to create three individual braids and join them together for a unique 3 Braid design! The instructions to fuse the ends remains the same as the 5 strand braid!

1. Cut your jersey yarn into 9 lengths at 45โ€ long. Separate into 3 sections of 3. Do a standard braid in each section, until your desired length is reached. Trim the ends and finish as shown in the 5-Strand Braid Headband.
